GuruJal came to me for a rebrand that their budget ultimately couldn't carry. The brief was too good to lose, so I built it out as a spec project: a full identity for a water-security initiative born in the Haryana Chief Minister's office.

01

The Context

The story of GuruJal started at the Haryana Chief Minister's office, where the founder, Shubhi, found herself dealing with a massive number of water related complaints. She was on a big mission, but the existing branding was holding the initiative back. The old logo had way too much going on with overlapping elements like hands, a water drop, and circles. It felt like an outdated NGO from the past and lacked the visual scalability needed for digital spaces. To really connect with the public and move away from that rigid government feel, we needed a brand that was modern, welcoming, and easy to talk to.

02

The Strategy

When I dove into a detailed audit of the brand, one glaring thing stood out. It completely lacked emotion. Water is literally the source of all life, but that deep importance just was not shining through the old visuals. To fix this, I teamed up with my favorite copywriter and my better half, Simona Hede, to craft a powerful manifesto that would give the brand its emotional heartbeat. This collaboration gave us our anchor point and the beautiful new tagline, "Clean Water. Sure Future.". That foundational story became the launchpad for the entire rebrand.

03

New Logo

With the strategy locked in, the visual direction flowed naturally, much like water finding its path. I stripped away all the unnecessary clutter to create something clean, simple, and memorable. The new logo takes the shape of a water droplet that smoothly curves into the letter G, while the negative space inside cleverly forms a J. It is a bold, modern mark designed to scale flawlessly, looking just as sharp on a tiny 16px website favicon as it does printed on the back of a 5 foot water tanker.

04

The Brand

The logo was really just the beginning. I wanted GuruJal to have a visual system that could step into any space and completely own it, whether that is on a social media feed, an outdoor billboard, or a high profile fundraiser. The goal was to make the brand instantly recognizable so people from all walks of life could connect with the vital issue of water security in India. We brought this to life with a fresh color palette inspired by different depths of water, ranging from bright surface blues to deep, calm navy tones. We paired this with open source, highly readable fonts like Fira Sans to keep everything feeling premium yet accessible.

Water security is a national conversation, so the brand could not speak only English. I adapted the wordmark into every major Indian script — Devanagari, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Tamil and Telugu among them — holding the droplet mark constant while each script keeps its own natural letterforms. It means GuruJal reads as itself in whichever state it works in, instead of looking like a translation bolted onto an English brand.

05

Application

Once the core elements were set, I focused on how the brand would actually live and breathe across different touchpoints. Because the new logo motif is so strong, it easily expands into a full visual language. By simply rotating and repeating the logo mark, it transforms into a beautiful, seamless wave pattern that pays tribute to water. The pattern was designed to also delve into the merchandising and lifestyle aspect of the brand where the supporters and champions of the brand could still own it without explicitly flashing people in the face with a logo.
